Vidiyal Counselling Centre came as the result of the activities of Saranalayam - the rehabilitation centre for the street children and women & children in distress. It was felt that a centre is needed to council the women with unwanted Pregnancy and a short stay home for the unwanted pregnant women. Thus the centre was started in the year 2001 and was functioning in the T.S.S.S Training Centre at Barathi Nagar, Palayamkottai . In the year 2002, the state Government requested the centre to accept the abandoned children coming under Cradle Baby Scheme. Now it has got the State Government license to receive abandoned and surrendered children and give these children in Adoption. A new building was constructed in Alankulam exclusively for the purpose with the support of ANDHERI HILFE BONN. This was inaugurated by Bishop Jude Paulraj on 22.03.2003. Fr. Lawrence, the Direcot of TSSS was the promoter of the centre and he was incharge of the centre till March 2004

Rehabiliataion Home for Street Children - Saranalayam

Saranalayam is a Rehabilitation Home for Street and working children, children in distress and women in distress. It was started in the year 1993 by the then the Director of T.S.S.S Fr. Antony Cruz as one of the activities of the project “REHABILITATION OF THE STREET AND WORKING CHILDREN” supported by the ANDHERI HILFE BONN. Initially the centre was functioning in a rented house. Bishop Irudhayaraj inaugurated the present centre on 17.09.1996. It has two separate buildings, one for boys and another for female children and women. The main activities of the centre are

  2. Nutritious meals for the children
  3. Tracing the missing children
  4. Tracing the parents
  5. Games and medical facilities of the children
  6. Non - formal education
  7. Counseling for the children and parents
  8. Home Placement / School Placement / Job Placement
  9. Skill training
  10. Rehabilitation through formal education and technical education
  11. Follow-up of parents and children
  12. Tailoring Training and Screen Printing
  13. Note Book making unit

Vimala Grihini Training Centre

History :  
The purpose of the centre is to give non formal education to the rural girls of marriageable age on various aspects of women empowerment. This was the first of this kind started in Tamil Nadu in July 1978. The promoter of the centre is then the Director of T.S.S.S Fr. Thomas Malayambaram. The centre offers five months non-formal residential course for 25 girls twice in a year, starting in January and July every year.

Valanaar Academy of Vocational Training Centre

T.S.S.S has been working for the rehabilitation of child labours since 1987 in more than 300 villages through various measures such as Balwadies, Special Coaching Classes, Women Associations, Men Association, etc,. All these measures had definitely motivated the parents in the villages to send their children for education. The formal education of the time was inadequate in terms of skill formation and employability. However, the parents needed to be assured of skill formation and employability through an alternative educational model. Thus the need for a vocational training centre was felt and The Valaanar Academy of Vocational Training Centre came into existence. This vocational training centre building consists of classrooms, workshops, library cum administrative block and separate hostels for boys & girls. The centre was blessed by the first Bishop of the Palayamkottai Diocese Most Rev. Bishop S. Irudayaraj D.D, and inaugurated by then the central cabinet minister Mr. M. Arunachalam on 18.07.1996. Rev. Fr. Antony A.Cruz then Director of T.S.S.S was the first Correspondent of the vocational centre. The centre was established with the financial support from ANDHERI HILFE BONN as part of their project “TECHNICAL EDUCATION RURAL BOYS AND GIRLS FOR PREVENTION OF CHILD LABOURS”. At present the vocational training centre is functioning as a self financed organization.

Vinnarasi Technical Training Centre

From the year 1984 T.S.S.S started working in more than 300 villages against the child labour situation. To create awareness against childlabour and to prevent child labour situation in the villages, women were organized and Women Associations were formed in the villages. During its fight against the child labour situation in the villages with the Women Associations, T.S.S.S realized that alternative employment opportunities were needed for the uneducated children who were involved in match boxes and Beedi rolling. For this purpose the non - formal skill training centre was started in Kayathar. The centre was inaugurated by Bishop Irudayaraj on 17.08.1988. The promoter of the centre of then the T.S.S.S Director Fr. G. Kulandai Raj. It was part of the integrated child labour programme supported by ANDHERI HELFE BONN. Initially it offered residential two-year training programme on Carpentry and welding & Lathe. At present the following courses are offered,

  • Carpentry - Two Year Course
  • Two - wheeler mechanism - One Year
  • Electrical and Home Appliances - One Year
  • Computer - Different Duration
  • Typing - One Year
  • Tailoring - Six Months

Palayamkottai Community College

History :  
The Diocese of Palayamkottai was created on 17.05.1973 and Bishop S. Irudayaraj was consecrated on 12.09.1973 ,as the first Bishop of the Diocese. As the memorial of the Silver Jubilee of the Diocese and the consecration of the first Bishop, the community college was started in September 1998 with the blessing of Bishop of Bishop Irudayaraj. It was inaugurated by the then Tamil Nadu Educational Minister Mr. Anbalagan in the presence of the District Collector and other Dignitaries of the District on 19th September 1998. The Administration of the community college was entrusted to T.S.S.S and the then Director of T.S.S.S Fr. Antony A. Cruz, was the first Secretary of the Palayamkottai Community College.

The Purpose of the Community College is to concentrate on the Integrated Development of the students and prepare the students for employment, which is available in the community. To find out the employment opportunities in the district regular survey is conducted.
