Honoring Mary’s Assumption and India’s 79th Independence Day

Dear Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, and Lay Faithful,

Warm greetings in the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The 15th of August is a day of special significance for us as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the 79th Anniversary of India’s Independence. These twin celebrations remind us that, as Christians, we are called to journey towards our heavenly home while faithfully serving our nation on earth.

Mary’s Assumption is a feast of hope. Her faithful “Yes” to God, her unwavering trust, and her steadfast discipleship inspire us to live lives of holiness, humble service, and confident hope, even amid life’s challenges. As Mother of the Church, she continues to guide us closer to her Son and strengthen the faith of the Church in India.

On this Independence Day, we gratefully remember the sacrifices of those who secured our nation’s freedom. Their legacy calls us to promote justice, peace, equality, and fraternity. As Christians, our love for our country is expressed through responsible citizenship, respect for human dignity, care for creation, and service to the common good.

I sincerely thank our priests, religious, and lay faithful for their dedicated service in education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, social outreach, and charitable works. Your faithful witness continues to make Christ present in our communities and contributes greatly to the welfare of society.

As we celebrate the Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope, let us draw inspiration from Mary to become signs of hope in our families, parishes, institutions, and society. Let us pray for our nation, its leaders, public servants, armed forces, healthcare workers, educators, farmers, labourers, and all who work for the progress of our country. May God bless us with peace, justice, harmony, and respect for every human person.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patroness and Mother of the Church, intercede for our Diocese and our beloved India. May she strengthen our priests and religious, inspire our young people, bless our families, and lead us all to Jesus Christ. As we celebrate these joyful occasions of faith and patriotism, may our hearts be renewed in hope, strengthened in charity, and committed to living the values of the Gospel.

May Our Lady of the Assumption pray for us.
